This morning, on my way to Coup de Foudre Lingerie, I walked by an unusual store window at H&M (Corner of 10th & E Street NW)

Instead of a regular store window showcasing the latest trends at H&M, I was greeted with the following posters.....

First Window: "No Peeking. Our mannequins are getting dressed". "Even Mannequins get shy sometimes. It's only human"

Second Window: "Sometimes even mannequins have a hard time deciding what to wear"

I admit it's rather unconventional....but it worked...It got my attention. Now, I am really wondering what they are working on!

Too bad I never thought about using that line in our lingerie store window! It might have grabbed your attention...

Risque French Lingerie Advertising?

French lingerie advertising always intertwines femininity and sexiness. In doing so, such ads typically contain a beautiful woman wearing exquisite lingerie in a lavish decor, with brands like Aubade often presenting these scenes in Black and White.

New bra statistics from Consumer Reports!

A poll conducted by the Consumer Reports National Research Center found that 37 percent of women don’t bother to try bras on before making a purchase to make sure they fit. Wow....

Yet, 75 percent of women reported that they faced a specific challenge related to fit, and 53 percent of women have never been professionally fitted for a bra. When shopping for a new bra, 63 percent of women reported that comfort was the most important feature they looked for, followed by support (21 percent).

Bra Poll:

Bra Ownership-- Women own an average of 9 bras, but only wear 6 on a regular basis; the average woman purchased 4 bras in the past year.

Decent Exposure-- 80% of women say they would never go out in public without a bra.-- Over one-third (34%) of women take action to enhance their bra size, withthe most common methods being padded (23%) and push-up (22%) bras.

A Perfect Match-- Matching bra and panties is not a priority for most women. 58% of women say they never or rarely match bras and panties.-- Over one-quarter of women (27%) have decided against purchasing a clothing item because they did not have an appropriate bra to wear.

Bra Life Expectancy? Bra life span?

What is your bra life expectancy? While there is no magic formula to calculate your bra life span, it depends on the following factors:


1) How many bras you own 2) How often you rotate your bras 3) How you care for your bras 4) What is the Quality & Craftmenship of your bra

1)How many bras do you own? If you wear the same bra everyday it would quickly lose its elasticity. Yes...you know you are guilty of that one...! The life expectancy for that bra would obviously be shorther and would need to be replaced more often.


Fact: On average, women own about 6-10 bras. (see our bra statistic survey)

2) How often do you rotate your bras?


We all have that favorite bra that keeps finding it's way to the top of the drawer so it gets worn more than the rest. It will wear out faster than expected.


Fact:You should rotate your bra every 2 days.


3) How do you care for your bras?


Washing and wearing, stretches the fabric and causes it to relax resulting in less support. As your bra ages, the elasticity will relax. You can wash your bra in the washing machine (unless you really have the time to do it by hand- who does?). Make sure it is hooked together to prevent tangling and use a lingerie wash bag to keep your underwear separate. Wash on delicate cycle in cool water. And please...no dryer (especially for T Shirt Bras).


Fact: Heat breaks down the spandex.


4) What is the quality of material & craftmenship of your bra?

The quality of the material and craftmenship plays an important part in the life expectancy of your bra. Some of our vendors such as Chantelle or Prima Donna do extensive testing. For example, each new fabric used by the brand is examined and tested in Chantelle’s quality control laboratory for its reaction to washing, wearing, yellowing, and color fastness. Only when the quality of the material has been approved can the fabric be used for manufacturing.


Signs it is time to buy some new bras: Discoloration, loss of elasticity or shape, torn fabric or the 3rd hook (the tighest) does not feel tight anymore.

Here's a look at the Simone Perele Lingerie Fall Collection 2008 (For your eyes only). Which collection (Stiletto, Avant Premiere, Paradis, Palace, Backstage, Dress Code) do you prefer? I know it's a tough choice because everything look fantastic.

Don't you love the theme?.. very hollywoodesque! You are invited to the "Avant Premiere" (translation from French: "movie preview"). There will be a "dress code" to attend i.e you will need to wear you sexy "Stiletto". You will have a chance to go "Backstage" to meet and mingle with the actors and then meet us for the after hour party at the"Palace". Wow...great program!

Back to some serious questions: We love the new Simone Perele lingerie Fall 2008 collection....but we can't buy it all! So which one do you want to see at Coup de Foudre this Fall?

Front Row at Lingerie Fashion Week- New York

We are heading out to Lingerie Americas in New York on Saturday night until Monday. (Please note that the store will be closed on Monday). We are excited to see the Fall 2008 lingerie collection from Chantelle, Aubade, Huit, Simone Perele, Barbara, Ravage, just to name a few and see the new and latest lingerie trends for the Fall.

We will give you a front row look at this Fall lingerie collections, highlights from various lingerie designers and insider scoop on what is going on . We will break down our report into lingerie trends and "must- haves" and organize it into a single cohesive post. That might be a challenge! Yes, we must admit that after spending 2 hectic days at Lingerie Americas we have problems remembering what we have seen! That's why we take lots of notes (color, type of lace, cut, style, fit on model, wearability, price, etc...) for every lingerie collections that we see.

This year, we are inviting our customers and blog readers to select what we should carry for this Fall. We will post pictures of the Fall Lingerie collections and invite you to vote on your favorites. You will have a short window of opportunity to vote because our fall orders need to be submitted A.S.A.P. Hopefully you are up for a lingerie fashion challenge!

Valentine's Day Statistics at Coup de Foudre Lingerie

As most of you know, we are located in the business district in downtown Washington, DC (4 blocks from the white house) so we get a fair share of men buying lingerie for Valentine's day. But when do men shop for Valentine's day? Here are some recent statistics based on a recent Valentine's poll conducted at the store, personal observations and store traffic:


- 20% of Men buy gift on V-Day

- 35% of Men buy gift the day before V-Day

- 30% of Men buy gift the week before V- Day

-10% of Men buy gift the week + before V-Day

- 5% don't know.

This year, we even expect more last minute shopping because of the DC primary happening on Tuesday, February 12th. Hard to vote and buy your Valentine's gift on the same day!

The good news is that you still have 3 more days to buy your gift! So tell us, are you done with your Valentine's day shopping or you are waiting till the last minute this year?

Spring is in the air..... really? It is currently snowing in Washington, DC. Well, at least in our store...

The Washington Post just published The List: What's In and Out for 2008. The first thing on their list is Spanx as IN for 2008!

Well, it depends who you ask! If you ask Spencer Morgan from the New York Observer who conducted a thorough product review and testing of Spanx ( I Put My Chestnuts In Spandex Storage—It Felt … Creepy!) it would be OUT! (Don't read this ladies if you don't want to be offended!).

Spanx a lot for sharing your view Mr Morgan....but if you ask the rest (i.e celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Oprah Winfrey, Jessica Alba.., fashion magazine editors or our customers), they are more IN than ever! Ah...what woman have to do to look their best!
