Valentine's Day: Top 10 "Lessons of Seduction"

French lingerie brand Aubade has always been well-known for being pioneers in the world of lingerie but even more so in its lingerie advertising campaigns. Their skillful advertising campaign hasn't changed in over a decade and rely on marketing each new lingerie set as a “lesson” in seducing men. Hence the name, "The Lessons of seduction"

This lingerie advertising campaign is one of a kind and clever. But, why is their advertising campaign so unique and unconventional?

Here's an explanation from BrandChannel:



• "The photographs are shot in black and white and show a beautifully proportioned woman in Aubade lingerie. The lesson is provocative and slightly tongue in cheek."




• "The lessons are intended to draw women together by sharing tips on how to charm a man, but are risqué enough to appeal to men."




• "The campaign never shows the model's face. The strategy is that the woman can better identify with the faceless body, while the ads are still sexy enough for a man to feel he is buying something special. "
  



• "It is also an ingenious cost-cutting strategy as the company does not have to pay reproduction rights on the photographs. The classy feel of the black and white pictures help position Aubade as a luxury brand"
  
  


• Aubade relied on famous photographers such as B Matussiere, H Lewis, Michel Perez to capture the essence of the Aubade woman: feminine, classy and elegant but at the same time bold, daring and playful.

Fourteen years and eighty nine lessons have passed.....and we still look forward to discover the next lesson!

What’s inside is truly magical: Twelve months of absolutely amazing, beautiful and tasteful picture of lingerie with one of the most talented lingerie photographer, Michel Perez.

The calendar or "Calendrier" is all in French. You can always pretend you need one to improve your French and learn the months of the year! ...That won't replace your French Beginner class at the Alliance Francaise though....

Another TV show, "How to Look Good Naked,” with Carson Kressley mentions the importance of having the perfect foundation to improve your overall look.

The Washington Post just published The List: What's In and Out for 2008. The first thing on their list is Spanx as IN for 2008!

Well, it depends who you ask! If you ask Spencer Morgan from the New York Observer who conducted a thorough product review and testing of Spanx ( I Put My Chestnuts In Spandex Storage—It Felt … Creepy!) it would be OUT! (Don't read this ladies if you don't want to be offended!).

Spanx a lot for sharing your view Mr Morgan....but if you ask the rest (i.e celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Oprah Winfrey, Jessica Alba.., fashion magazine editors or our customers), they are more IN than ever! Ah...what woman have to do to look their best!

New Aubade Resort Swimwear

Whether you're heading off to the British Virgin Island this holiday season or walking the decks of a cruise ship (lucky you!), the little black swimsuit is a no-fail option. Good timing...we just received the latest resort swimwear collection from Aubade: the Cuba Collection.

Ok...we are not sure why Aubade pick that name, Cuba, especially for the US market. Cross cultural marketing blunders happen all the time and to the best company too. (see our entry blog on how do lingerie/swimwear designer pick their name of collections?) . Hopefully you won't be forbiden, arrested or fined for wearing it.

Bathing suit only available in Black and based on your true bra size (because it is stylish, sliming and flatering....). You are sure to get some compliments.

Lingerie Project Runaway?

We are thinking of introducing a new lingerie designer to the store.

Now, you would think that picking a new lingerie designer might be easy..Think again. Criterias to introduce new lingerie designer/lines include (but not rank in terms of importance) Fit, Brand Recognition, Price range, Appeal to customers, Color, Style, Production (i.e Made in France vs Made in China), Size range available, Quality, Distribution, Delivery, Terms and conditions.

To add on to it, we usually purchase new lingerie collections about six months before it is shown in the store. Therefore, we must be able to anticipate trends in fashion and consumer needs. Crystal ball ....anyone?

Are you up for a fashion challenge a la Project Runaway? (Yes we must admit we love that Bravo TV show..even though we have no design experience) Do you feel like you could help us in our retail buying decision? We will post in February on this blog new pictures of Fall 2008 collections from new lingerie designers and will invite you to vote on your favorite ones.
